The Story:  About 10 years ago Eric from Upton Bass worked for a US Importer/Distributor here in the North East.  Upton Bass was one of Eric's accounts, and over the years Gary & Eric became good friends.  Gary was buying some Romanian flatbacks from another importer at the time, and Eric wanted to capture more of Gary's business, so with Gary's specification list in hand Eric had the Romanian workshop make some basses.  The basses met Gary's approval, so some more basses were made...and when the shipment would come in Eric would pick the best of the best and call Gary to come get them.

Fast forward to today and Gary called the importer to see if they still made the basses and had some to pick through as not all of the imported basses were worthy of the "Upton Bass" stamp of approval.  They did have some in stock from a 2009 shipment, so Jack (who also used to work for this importer) drove out to look them over.  Jack selected 3 of the best basses and drove them back to the UB Stonington workshop where he set them up.

These are decent entry level basses made with Carpathian Maple and Spruce from the Romanian portion of the Carpathian Mountain Range.  This is an easy to play bass well suited to either Jazz or Classical use and could easily be an instrument that you own for life, despite the low asking price.
