I’ve been playing my new Karr model for 2 months now and I couldn’t be more pleased with the bass and the total Upton experience. I had been looking for years to purchase a new upright, but could never find the right balance of sound, quality, and price. So I was very interested when I first saw the Karr bass on the Upton website. I was impressed with the design and bracing enhancements, the fact that Eric’s custom model won a medal for sound at the ISB convention, it’s endorsed by Gary Karr, it’s built and serviced locally, and it’s reasonably priced. I took my plywood bass in for a new endpin and set-up which gave me a chance to check out the Upton shop, their service, and of course the Karr bass. Kate and Jack were extremely helpful. They answered all my questions about the work on my bass and the Karr bass. The setup on my plywood was perfect - it actually played so much better I almost didn’t need a new bass! But when I saw and played the Karr bass I was sold. I ordered a Karr bass with a few upgrades and it was delivered in Jan 2010. The quality, workmanship, sound, and playability are superb.
