Although spruce is extremely strong, asking 4mm to 8mm thick tonewoods to hold up hundreds of pounds of string tension WHILE vibrating is nothing short of miraculous. Basses are big...easy targets really for just about any large object you're trying to navigate around...and let's not even begin to talk about what mother nature herself is trying to do to our beloved instruments.
