Initially, when Gary set out to make a $99 workshop bow, he never thought of going to the other end of the price spectrum. Given the overwhelming success bassists have had with the $99 dollar bows, Gary decided to push the Upton Bass workshop's purchasing and craftsmanship abilities to the limit.

We pulled out all the stops on this bow's creation. Bow makers can attest to the growing scarcity of true Pernambuco, but no expense was spared and the highest quality Pernambuco wood was used. Gorgeous, fiery reds and an almost soapy texture under the knife make this wood a dream to work with and its playing characteristics and tone cannot be replaced.

Our Pernambuco sticks were matched to our handmade snakewood frogs and buttons. Snakewood is often much darker, but in our opinion, the creamy color of this snakewood perfectly complements the Upton Bass Deluxe Pernambuco Workshop Bow .

The hatchet (tip) of the Upton Bass Carbon Fiber Double Bass Bow is modeled after the style of Parisian bow maker F.N.Voirin. Also notable is the fact that French and German style bows are not the same sticks with different frogs; the bows are true to their styles from the button, to the camber, and all the way to the tip. Unfortunately, this detail is overlooked on many bows today and can greatly affect the bow's playability.

Highly figured mother of pearl adorns this bow, as well as 100% sterling silver wrap with lizard skin grips. The Upton Bass Deluxe Pernambuco Workshop Bow looks as good as it sounds!
