Upton Bass Deluxe "SuperSwing" Double Bass
In honor of some vintage Americana, the Upton Bass Deluxe SuperSwing Double Bass pays respect to the detail work found on older, higher quality American basses of the 40's, 50's & 60's. .
The utmost care and craftsmanship has been employed in the construction of this double bass to ensure that every detail receives proper attention. Graduated laminations of well-seasoned maple and solid carved spruce tops on our hybrid versions are finished with all ebony fittings. In tribute to the highly collectable and widely sought after Kay basses that were custom made exclusively for professional musicians of the 30's 40's and 50's, the Upton Bass Deluxe SuperSwing Double Bass has real inlayed purfling throughout. German tuners by add to this double bass' appeal. The scroll bevels, pegbox interior, rib miter, F-holes, and neck heel have all been painted black by hand (this is optional and if you do not want the painted line please let us know). The UB SuperSwing features a classic boiled linseed oil based varnish (a true blond finish!) and is unlike any other instrument available on the double bass market in this price range.
The Deluxe SuperSwing Double Bass is built from raw materials in our Stonington, Connecticut workshop. The large upper bouts allow for the bass to move more air, resulting in a thunderously low but warm tone, but having a custom taper to allow for ease of play. Our ff hole pattern was inspired by the ff holes on the Scott LaFaro Prescott! See how we desgined it here! The robust upper bouts allow for the bass to move more air, resulting in a thunderously low but warm tone. Our Laminated SuperSwing Bass has long been a popular choice of our Bluegrass, Jazz, and Rockabilly customers, who report that an amplifier is not needed in smaller venues.
Each and every UB Deluxe SuperSwing double bass is hand-crafted and setup to your specifications in our Upton Bass atelier. We don't require you give us numbers and specs for the setup but rather a few players you adore and a good description of your playing style, and the playing situations you will be using the bass in. Our setup luthiers spend time with you to get a feel for not only how you play, but what you play. You can be sure that any UB Double Bass will exceed your expectations, You can be sure we set it up for you!

Please Note: Discrepancies may occur in the color of the instruments pictured. Monitor settings, screen resolution, lighting, and background all contribute to the latter. As each bass is composed of unique pieces of wood, there are inherent qualities in the wood itself which make each bass slightly different from one and other which must be taken in to account when ordering. All hardware and parts pictured are subject to change and availability. Upton Bass guarantees and stands behind the function and quality of all hardware and parts installed on each and every one of our basses.

The UB Deluxe SuperSwing Double Bass is the bass of choice for Jack Hanlon, Head Luthier and Manager of our Upton Bass Workshop in Stonington, CT.
Please note: Finishing of the UB Deluxe SuperSwing is done in our workshop in small batches and there can be color variations from batch to batch. Features of the Upton Bass Setup:
*We fit high-quality endpins on all of our UB double basses.
*French made Stock Upton Bass bridges are meticulously fitted, carved, and tonally adjusted for each individual UB double bass. The top radius of each bridge is custom carved to meet the specifications of your playing style. Once a bridge meets our standards, it is then branded with our logo. Adjusters may be installed at an additional charge of $50.
*English-style Grade "AAA" Ebony Tailpieces are hung with Clef HITEC Tailpiece Cable. This lightweight, flexible cable is stronger than steel! After-lengths are carefully calculated and adjusted for the best tone.
*We hand select seasoned European spruce Sound Posts and fit them ourselves to ensure each bass reaches its maximum tonal capabilities. Our sound posts fit 100% with no bevel and no domes.
*We dress Fingerboards of the highest grade ebony and polished them to perfection.
*Ebony Nuts are brought to exact tolerances. Other than the bridge, the nut is one of the most important (and most overlooked) aspects of your setup. Incorrect string angles can prematurely break strings and cause buzzes. Incorrect spacing can make it difficult to play and grooves that are not correct can damage the string and take away from your bass's tone. Incorrect string heights can not only make your bass difficult to play, but may cause long term medical problems.
*Each bass is played by our staff. If something is not quite right, it is done again until it is. Simply put, the level and quality of service we offer is second to none. We are FANATICAL about achieving the perfect setup for your UB double bass.
Already have a bass with an E-flat neck??? Want your Upton Bass to have one?? We can customize your new bass with an E-flat neck for an upgrade charge of $500.

Customer Reviews of the UB SuperSwing Double Bass:
"I finally got my new bass to my teacher, and he was very impressed. These were some of his comments:
'That's a nice adjustable bridge...You've got a great tail piece and cable here; this isn't the cheap stuff...They did a great job on the neck...That endpin is very nice; I'd like to have one of those...Those guys have really got something going on up there; I'll buy my next bass from them as soon as I sell my Kay... I'm going to recommend them to my other students.'
He was very impressed with your setup work and the sound of the bass in general. Thanks again for a great price on a great instrument. At first I wasn't sold on the importance of the "Upton Setup", but I'm convinced now that without it, I might as well be playing cardboard box with strings stretched across it. This instrument has inspired me to write and rehearse more often and more effectively. You will be getting my business in the future." -JD in Atlanta
"I have been extremely happy with my new SuperSwing Bass. Whether jamming or playing on stage, it's tone, volume and playability are all top notch. The UB SuperSwing is a GREAT bass! Thanks so much." -Eli Johnston, Nothin' Fancy Blue Grass Band
