Zyex bass strings use a synthetic Zyex core that provides gut-like rich and complex tone, combined with power and clarity for both pizzicato and bowing. These strings were brought to the attention of the bass class at the 2011 session of Nash Camp by the instuctor - 7-times IBMA bassist of the year Missy Raines.
I have just replaced the Spirocores I was using with a set (medium in both cases) and am quite pleased; not that there was anything wrong with the Spirocores - they were great- but I like these even better. The main difference, as the advertising notes, is these strings sound and feel more "gut-like". They have a bit less tension than the Spirocores, plus more depth and a bit more fullness in the D & G strings. They also seem to have more "growl", for lack of a better word. I guess I should also mention that they sound better when bowed which, I admit, I do very little.
