BASS ORDER UPGRADE: Reinforced Build

Hand-building our own instruments in our Stonington, Connecticut workshop allows us to do things other can't. Some musicians require additional measures to make sure their double bass is able to withstand the abuse of the road. Whether you're playing 5 gigs in 7 days, in 3 different states, with a whole band cramming gear in one van or you are performing "stunts" like standing on your instrument, Upton Bass String Instrument Company can build a bass that is better suited to survive a life on the road or EXTREME situations. Ribs: Our Standard layout of ribs includes three layers of Poplar with the grain aligned in what we have found to be the most tonally beneficial. Our Reinforced layout of ribs includes five layers of Poplar with the grain aligned in what we have found to be a combination of superior strength while closely matching the tonality of our Standard build. These two additional layers with one of them having semi-opposing grain greatly increases the basses strength.

Plates: Our Standard layout of plates includes five layers of Poplar with the grain layered in such a way as to produce an instrument that closely replicates the tone of a solid wood instrument. The inner and outer most layers have the grain running vertically to give a traditional look. Our Reinforced layout of plates includes seven layers of Poplar with the inner and outer layers the same as the Standard layout.
